It seems like about once a year I am shocked by celebrity news. Last year it was Clay AIken coming out of the closet and now I’m reading that Adam Lambert is gay. Who KNEW?? I feel like I have been made a fool of once again, I am always the last to know. What is it with that??
Seriously though, who didn’t know American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert has a gay man? It’s pretty obvious right? I mean, it’s not like he ever did anything to actually hide it, he wasn’t going around telling people how he was going to find a good girl and settle down with her. I am all for people not parading around their sexuality, but I really don’t like those that go out of their way to actually lie (sorry Wentworth, it’s the truth).
It was nice to see him get a little dig in at Clay too, who is so gross I want to rip his nose off, what a smug A-Hole he is. Adam said: ”I didn’t want the Clay Aiken thing and the celebrity-magazine bull . . . .” I have to give Lambert props to because coming out in Rolling Stone Magazine is a hell of a step up from People, you know?
He goes on to say: ”I need to be able to explain myself in context, I’m proud of my sexuality. I embrace it. It’s just another part of me.” That said he goes on to state, ”I’m trying to be a singer, not a civil-rights leader.” Good for him I guess, not everyone should have to be the gay incarnation of MLK.
One thing that I find interesting is the fact that he said he didn’t want to talk about it because that would have made it this huge issue, he wanted people to be talking about him because of his singing ability not who he likes to snuggle in with at night. Hmmm, I think he is being a little less than honest about this, I don’t hold it against him though. I mean, come on, by refusing to answer the question over and over again it blew it up into a much bigger deal than if he had just said yeah, I like dudes in the first place. Well played though.
Whether the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation is pissed at him for hiding behind the non confrontational answers or not, they have managed to put a good spin on it.
GLAAD says:
”As more and more Americans get to know gay and lesbian people, it has a tremendous impact in terms of creating awareness, understanding and acceptance of our community,” GLAAD President Neil. G. Giuliano said in a statement. ”American Idol has become iconic in our culture, and as Adam continues to share his story during his post-Idol career, we hope his decision to live openly and honestly inspires gay people and opens the hearts and minds of his fans and others he will continue to entertain.”
We will be able to pick up a fresh new album from Adam Lambert come fall, as well as one from the winner of American Idol, Kris Allen. And of course there is still plenty of speculation that Lambert will be joining Queen as their new frontman. As far as Clay Aiken is concerned, well, he has nothing in the works now and probably never will have again. (Thanks Goodness!)
