Birthstones and other Glamorous Gemstones

birthstone gemstones

[tag]Gemstones[/tag] are one of the most amazing gifts of nature. Not only are they gorgeous but many of them symbolize some of the deepest meanings of life. For centuries gems were considered to serve many different purposes, some were used in healing practices while others are believed to aid in meditation and dreaming and some even bring good luck. There are many uses for wearing jewelry and gemstones, and one of the most common these days is to show your own personal and individual style.

People have bought and sold gems and jewelry since the beginning of time, wars have been fought for some and plenty of blood has been spilled in the protection of them and the stealing of them.

There is something about gems and jewels that captivate and bring out so many sides of us as humans. Gemstones are both romantic and fierce at the same time. Everyone should have some fabulous gems in their jewelry wardrobe, not only because they are beautiful but because they can make you feel good. With just a glimpse they can change a mood faster than anything else around.

There are different types of gems and jewels, some are precious and some semi-precious. The fact of the matter is that they are all gorgeous and stunning in their colors and their intensities. Those gems that are more rare and harder to find or to mine are the ones that are considered to be precious stones. The vast majority of jewels on the market are semi-precious, the only precious stones are diamonds, rubies, emeralds and sapphires. These all come in a wide range of colors and qualities and not all are equal in value.

Of course the gemstones that most of us are interested in are our birthstones. Who has not owned a piece of jewelry with their birthstone in it? Most of us have and those who haven’t want to.

People of all races and cultures have their own beliefs about birth and most of them have some kinds of stones or gems tied into these beliefs. Wearing or carrying [tag]birthstones[/tag] used to be a very sacred thing, now for the most part we wear them because they are pretty and it is stylish to do so. This does not mean that you cannot learn a little more about where your birthstone originates from and its history.

We all have a birthstone and in many cases you will find that you have more than one birthstone. Some months have more of a variety, for example September’s birthstone is sapphire and there is a sapphire for every color of the rainbow! And January offers a choice between Garnet or Rose Quartz.
