I am going to admit to doing something I generally pretend I don’t ever do at all…brace for it…I do watch some reality television. I know, I know! But it’s true and my most recent slip and fall into the reality pool was all due to The Voice.
I went in not really having any idea how the show worked except that they had swiveling chairs. I wasn’t expecting to like the “country singer guy” but it turned out he was really quite charming and fun to watch. He’s no Adam Levine to look at but he’s cute nonetheless.
So imagine my disappointment when today I read that he had some seemingly homophobic things to say on Twitter. Sigh.
What were his not-so-nice comments you ask? Well, The Voice judge said:
Re-writing my fav Shania Twain song.. Any man that tries Touching my behind He’s gonna be a beaten, bleedin’, heaving kind of guy…
Hmmm, I mean, I’ve heard worse I guess but this is still a nasty message that I didn’t expect since he didn’t seem to have any problem with any of the gays or lesbians on the show–and there were a handful of openly so contestants on a show with few people to begin with.
Of course GLADD rightly had something to say about his tweeting:
This is one of the judges on what’s so far been one of the most gay-friendly reality shows on television. For him to make a joke to his 300-thousand-plus followers about leaving a gay man ‘beaten, bleeding and heaving’ is completely unacceptable.
Blake Shelton needs to recognize that violence against the LGBT community is not a laughing matter, and he needs to apologize to his fans, and to fans of The Voice, for his comments.
And the way these things go Blake Shelton himself had his own response to the responses to his original comments (confused yet? Haha):
Hey y’all allow me to seriously apologize for the misunderstanding with the whole re-write on the Shania song last night. It honestly wasn’t even meant that way…I now know that their are people out there waiting to jump at everything I say on here or anywhere.
But when it comes to gay/lesbian rights or just feelings… I love everybody. So go look for a real villain and leave me out of it!!!
I have one question in regards to his last comments. How long has he been in the spotlight? A pretty long time right? You mean to tell me that only now is he discovering that people will jump on everything he says? Really?
Such. A. Disappointment. Not the end of the world but a disappointment nonetheless.

If I was a freaken dude and I was raised where he was raised (which I can say I am a proud born and raised and still livin’ Mississippi girl) I would definately be offended if some freaken gay dude tried to touch my behind. I mean if you people have any thing against people being homophobics or not liking gays/lesbians, maybe u should stick your nose in the Bible and start reading it, because it clearly states how homosexuality is sinful and strictly forbidden in the Kingdom of God. Now I know God loves all people but you have to look at this from a strong Christian’s stand point. It’s like any other sin and its not to be practiced. God made man and woman for a reason. Read the Bible, I think it may help you understand what million others of people and I are saying. So I think Blake Shelton’s comment should not have been taken so serious by people.
