Book banned by Scholastic because of gay parents

Most of us have attended a Scholastic Book Fair either as a child or a parent. They are always such a wonderful opportunity to pick up some new books. The only problems with the Book Fairs were that there were just too many books to choose from.
But apparently, these books were pre-selected through Scholastic’s censorship standards. It is clear most parents don’t want their grade-school aged children reading books filled with things such as racism, violence and hatred. But Scholastic has decided that these same parents do not want their children exposed to reality
You see Scholastic Book Fair has decided to ban the book Luv Ya Bunches.
One of the little girls in the story is from a gay family, she has two lesbian moms which they feel is offensive and inappropriate
What makes this even worse is that the book would not be banned if Myracle cleaned up the language and gave the character heterosexual parents. She said she was willing to clean up the language (crap, sucks) but she would not change the character’s parents.
It is mind boggling how such a well known (and large) organization, which is supposedly dedicated to helping students learn, chooses to discriminate toward gay and lesbian families as well as the children of those same-sex parents
Regardless of what your personal feeling are, it should be left to the parents to decide what they believe their child should, and will, read. By banning Luv Ya Bunches: Book One (there will be three) Scholastic has elected to help send our children a message that intolerance is acceptable: and it just isn’t!

I have never been a big fan of scholastic. They go into schools and the kids think they just have to have a book. This forces parents to spend money they may not have.
Libraries are a better source of materials to read that is easier on the budget.

That’s a good point, I never really looked at it like that and I did do a LOT of pressuring to get my parents to buy me what I wanted from them, my son did the same thing too. Hmmm, interesting. They are on my ban list now anyway, bastards! It’s not even like the book was about the gay parenting issue per se, it’s just that one of the girls had two moms. Scholastic sucks!
3 Scholastic Reverses Decision to Exclude Gay Friendly Book! // Oct 28, 2009 at 3:46 pm
[...] While Scholastic Books hasn’t directly apologized for originally excluding Luv Ya Bunches, which they blocked in part because the author refused Scholastic’s request that she include a heterosexual couple in the story, their statement today ensures that Luv Ya Bunches and other books with same sex parents as characters will be available at future book fairs. Moreover, the company has taken steps to avoid this issue in the future by committing “to a review process that considers all books equally regardless of their inclusion of LGBT characters and same sex parents.” [...]
