BREAKING Scientology News: Director Paul Haggis Leaves “Church”
Director Paul Haggis has made the decision to part ways with the Church of Scientology. He is leaving the cult religion because he cannot conform to their anti gay position. Apparently the Church (I use this term loosely) was wholeheartedly in support of California’s Proposition 8 banning gay marriage. I can’t say this news comes as a huge shock to me, the Scientology’s stance I mean, but with all the Hollywood types who let’s face it, are gay, I would have thought they would be more supportive of gay rights.
Haggis was introduced to Scientology by the parents of his wife, actress Deborah Rennard. And oddly enough the parents sinned against the Church of Xenu and Haggis and his wife were forced to shun Rennard’s parents forever. If that is not cult-like behaviour I don’t know what is!
I would imagine that this whole gay thing is just the straw that broke the camel’s back for Haggis. I wonder if they will reunite with his wife’s parents and if it’ll be something he welcomes lol! Having in-laws again could cause him to flee back into the arms of Scientology. I kid.
SeriousIy though, he wrote a scathing letter to Tommy Davis, who is the official Scientology spokesperson. This is what Paul Haggis has to say about his decision:
“And so, after writing this letter, I am fully aware that some of my friends may choose to no longer associate with me, or in some cases work with me…However, I have finally come to the conclusion that I can no longer be a part of this group. Frankly, I had to look no further than your refusal to denounce the church’s anti-gay stance, and the indefensible actions, and inactions, of those who condone this behavior within the organization. I am only ashamed that I waited this many months to act. I hereby resign my membership in the Church of Scientology.”
Good for him! It makes me wish I was a Hollywood person and I could work with him! Now we wait for John Travolta to fall off the Xenu Cult Wagon next.
