There was a new face in London’s latest Gay Pride Parade, that of Sarah Brown the wife of Prime Minister Gordon Brown. She marched alongside activists who called for her husband to legalize same sex marriages. She marched straight down Oxford Street, head held high with a black frock adorned with rainbow necklaces around her neck. It was a sight to behold, I’m sure. Following right after her were great big drag queens with equally large blond wigs and brightly hued Union Jack outfits. W-O-W.
The weather could have been cheerier but she, along with the other gay marriage supporters, didn’t seem to mind a little light rain, it didn’t seem to dampen anyones spirits. Including those of prominent gay rights activist Peter Tatchell who was excited to see Mrs. Brown along for the march. He said he planned to have a chat with her to see if she could talk to her husband about getting him to approve the right for same sex partners to marry and have the same rights that hetero couples automatically get.
I guess we will have to wait and see if she will speak out in support for those she marched with at the Gay Pride Parade. And of course if her husband listens or not.
