I swear to God I lost my shit when I really looked at this website and realized the extent of the customization available for their Swiss watches. Seriously OMG.

I have designed some great gay shirts that are fun to wear and that make a statement. It’s kind of an experiment on my part, expanding this blog and doing my part to getting the message of equality out there. I have designed some for men, women, even babies and pets can get some cute gay themed clothes.

I really wanted this gay clothing line to be versatile and I wanted there to be something for everyone so I have more than just gay shirts. I have some great shirts and a water bottle for men and women who are straight but who want to support gays and lesbians and the really the entire LGBT equality movement.

The compilation of birthstones in the above image are what we could consider to be “modern birthstones.” These vary from the traditional and mystical birthstones lists. The ones I have pictured are probably the best known birthstones of all. You can find them in all kinds of gorgeous gay and lesbian jewelry.

Let’s run down the list with each month, it’s birth stone and meaning:

January–>Garnet is this month’s birthstone and it can vary in color tremendously. You can get garnets with no color at all to deep wine hues, brown and even greens and golds. Just as the color varies so does the hardness of the stone, it can range from 7 – 7.5.

It’s easy to clean any garnet jewelry, a dry soft cloth should do the trick. Don’t use anything too rough because over time it will scratch the stone. Stay away from harsh cleaners as well as they could damage the birth stone too.

The color each stone holds is determined by the amount of iron in the vein of aquamarine mined. The best quality Aquamarines (AAA) are transparent and the March birthstone has a hardness of 7.5.

It’s a breeze to clean your aquamarine jewelry, all you need is some soapy warm water and a soft bristle brush. This gemstone is not one you should clean using a home ultrasonic machine. And like Amethyst, the gemstone can fade if left in the sun to long so keep it away from windowsills when you are not wearing your March jewelry.

Aquamarine is found all over the world though most of the stones we wear are found in countries like Brazil, India, Nigeria, Pakistan, Russia and USA (Colorado, Maine, North Carolina, and Vermont).

This birthstone represents the 16th and 19th year of marriage, and traditionally it was given to the bride to help keep them faithful and true.

April–>Diamonds we see in stores and online are generally colorless but those with color are gaining ground in terms of popularity. You can literally find the April birthstone in any of the following shades: black, blue, brown, gray, green, pink, red, and yellow. It’s like a rainbow all on it’s own. The colored diamonds in jewelry are usually color treated in some way.

We have always heard that the April birthstone is the strongest and toughest gemstone of all and that is partly true. It does have a hardness rating of 10 BUT it is a brittle gemstone that can shatter or chip on sharp impact. Due to their hardness however, they need to always be stored separate from other jewelry because they could cause scratches.

The majority of diamonds in April birthstone jewelry are found in Australia, Ghana, Zaire, the former USSR, USA Arkansas, California, Colorado, and North Carolina), and Brazil.

Diamond is the gemstone for a couple of anniversaries, the 30th and 60th year of marriage it’s also often given as a gift for the 10th year of marriage.

May–>Emerald birthstones are gorgeous, I’ve never seen an emerald that I didn’t like. Okay, that isn’t exactly true, but I really have liked most of them. The color and depth can vary from medium to dark green beryl and the color comes from chromium and vanadium.

May birthstones have a hardness rating of 7.5 and can be cleaned with a soft, dry cloth for the best results. This will protect them from scratches and chips. Do your best to keep them at an even temperature when you can as well.

Emeralds are a naturally included stone (emerald jewelry is often irradiated for clarity) and often they are treated with oil to fill the fissures and fractures that are naturally occurring. That is why using an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner or even warm soapy water is out of the question, it would remove the oil and leave the fissures visible and more open to cracks.

Emerald is gemstone for several different marriage anniversaries: the 20th, 35th and 55th year.

June–>Pearl is the birthstone of June and while it has a special glow that no other gemstone has it is one of the weakest. There are many varieties of pearl and there are many different shapes and shades as well. Some pearls are brown, black. cream, pink, peach and even green.

A lot of care needs to be taken when you own pearls. They are very sensitive to acids, dryness, as well as humidity. This means that if you wear perfume or scented lotion put these on before you put on the pearls. And every time you take off your pearl necklace or bracelet wipe it down with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth.

The Fresh Water Pearl is the anniversary gem stone for the 1st, 12th and 30th year of marriage.The July birthstone is an interesting gemstone in that it can be in any shade of red depending on the chromium and iron content of the crystal. The July birthstone has a hardness rating of 9 which makes it a very durable choice for everyday wear.

It is not uncommon to have rubies that have been heat treated. They do this to bring out the color and clarity of the stone.

Ruby is the birthstone of July and the best quality gemstones come from Myanmar. Countries like Afghanistan, Pakistan and Vietnam have very bright and vibrant rubies and Thailand has the July birthstone that is more brown than red.

Ruby is the anniversary gem stone for the 15th and 40th year of marriage.

August–>Peridot is a fresh gemstone that is typically lime or olive green. It gets it’s color from it’s iron content and it is not the hardest stone, it is rated at a hardness of 6.5. Interestingly enough these birthstones are often created during volcanic eruptions. You can even find them in the black sands of Hawaii. Cool!

It’s best to clean peridot jewelry with nothing more than a soft cloth and maybe some warm sudsy water. And because the August birthstone is a softer gemstone be careful it is not stored with other jewelry that could chip or scratch it.

Peridot August birthstone can be mined from countries like Australia, Brazil, China, Eygpt, Myanmar, Norway, and USA (Arizona, Colorado, Hawaii, and New Mexico).

When it comes to anniversaries the August birthstone is perfect for the 16th year of marriage. .

September–>Sapphire is one of my favorite gemstones, especially now that there is a rainbow of gemstones to choose from. Basically any good corundum that isn’t red is considered a sapphire. This includes colors like: blue, orange, yellow, violet, green, white and pink.

When you see a description of a sapphire and it doesn’t say anything about the color chances are they are referring to blue since most people still think of sapphires only being blue. You can even get September birthstones that change color in the light. It can go from blue to violet, it’s so cool.

Sapphire has a hardness rating of 9, so it’s a pretty tough stone, one you don’t have to worry about as much.

The best sapphires are found in Myanmar, Sri Lanka, and India. That said, the US Montana mines have come out with some lovely cornflower blue sapphires. The darker August birthstones come from the mines of Thailand, Australia, and Nigeria.

Sapphire is the wedding anniversary gem stone for the 5th and 45th year of marriage.

October–>Opal is the October birthstone and I bet you didn’t know that most of the opal on the market is over 60 million years old. Most of it dates back to the Cretaceous period. Dinosaurs man!

Opal is considered a “living” stone, and as such it needs a little bit of special are. Don’t expose it to high temperatures and you don’t want to ever use chemical cleaners on it, these dry the gem and that is not a good thing. They lose their iridescence, color and sparkle and the can even crack if it comes into contact with harsh detergents.

The best way to clean the October birthstone is with a clean, soft and dry cloth. Try to keep the opal jewelry as dry as you can but a little water now and then is nothing to worry about.

Over 90% of the world’s quality October birthstones come from Southern Australia. The rest is found in countries like Brazil, Mexico, Czechoslovakia, Nevada and Idaho. Any and all of the black opal jewelry you see comes exclusively from Australia.

The gem to give on the 14th and 18th wedding anniversary is Opal.

November–>Topaz comes in rainbow of colors just like sapphire but yellow topaz is Novermber’s birthstone. You can find topaz jewelry with colors like blue, yellow, pink, brown, green and clear. There are more rare colors like orange-red “Imperial” topaz but it is very hard to find.

Yellow topaz has a hardness of 8 and this is a fantastic stone for rings, no matter what the color is. You may wonder how there are so many different colors of topaz. Well, what they often do is take clear topaz irradiate and treat it to high temperatures and just like that color is born. Brown topaz is commonly treated to be more pink. People love pink topaz but it is really hard to find natural topaz like that.

You shouldn’t clean your November birthstone jewelry with anything but a little water and a few drips of soap.

Most of the topaz gemstones we see today are found in Africa, Australia, Brazil, China, Japan, Mexico, Myanmar, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Russia, and USA (Colorado, Maine and Utah).

For the 4th and 19th wedding anniversary you can give this birthstone to show how much you care. Imperial topaz, which is orange-red in color is also the anniversary stone of your 23rd year of marriage.

December–>Blue topaz is probably one of the most popular gemstones of all, along with amethysts. Like yellow topaz it is often created by heating clear crystal topaz until it turns blue. The thing about blue topaz is that it rarely occurs naturally, it is treated to be the bright shining gemstone it is.

Did you know that blue topaz is the Texas state gemstone? I had no idea. Now i have to go and look up all the other states to see what their gemstones are.

It’s also found in the same places as other topaz, places like Africa, Australia, Brazil, China, Japan, Mexico, Myanmar, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Russia, and USA (Colorado, Maine and Utah).

Blue topaz, the December birthstone is the stone to give for your 4th and 19th wedding anniversary and like I said in the Yellow topaz description Imperial Topaz is for the 23rd anniversary.

Like I said, rules are meant to be broken and every year there are more and more interesting versions of the class ring hitting the marketplace.
