I can’t even begin to express my anger, rage and utter violent disgst at the so called “man” who spoke today–well, yesterday now I guess–a high school in Sudbury Ontario.
[tag]Sudbury Secondary School[/tag] had some of the local political candidates in to speak to an auditorium full of high school students. They wanted these kids to get a sense of what government is and can be. That all sounds great right? They didn’t expect that some of the harshest [tag]anti gay speech[/tag] rhetoric would be spewed all over their auditorium.
It was, until one young boy asked the independent federal candidate [tag]David Popescu[/tag] what he thought of gay marriage. He answered quite simply that he felt all homosexuals should be executed. Pretty intense right?
When contacted by the news media later that same day he said the following:
“A young man asked me what I think of homosexual marriages and I said I think homosexuals should be executed,” he said. “My whole reason for running is the Bible and the Bible couldn’t be more clear on that point.”
As disgusting as I find the words he spewed and as much as his clear minded hate chilled me to the bone, I was heartened by the fact that most of the high school kids responded to his comments in a negative way.
These [tag]Sudbury[/tag] students were shifting uncomfortably in their seats and some even called for him to be cut off and cried out in outrage at his cold hearted, blunt anti gay statements.
I mean, sure you don’t like gays, but executed? David Popescu shouldn’t be speaking at a Sudbury high school, he should be over in Iran joining forces with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
It’s nice to see that kids today, at least some of them, are not of that same mindset. They are more tolerant, or at least they don’t want to execute gays and lesbians just because they are different.
I’m just stunned that the a-hole said he wanted gays executed out loud. I know some people think that but I wouldn’t expect them to say it out loud, you know? Just think how many people like him are out there, it’s positively frightening!
Anyways, I’m also happy to hear that the police are investigating David Popescu for the anti gay comments he made at that [tag]Sudbury high school[/tag]. They say his comments could be construed as promoting violence against gays which would be considered a hate crime. Fingers crossed he gets a hefty fine and has to serve some time behind bars. I know it’s not likely but one can dream.
I think free speech is good but only up to a point. I think if you want to promote hatred and violence, especially executions, you should spend a few years behind bars, hopefully with some violent criminals who are looking for some easy pickings like David Popescu.
