Turns out that Obama just held a reception to celebrate Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Pride Month. Just a couple of weeks ago he officially named June LGBT Pride month and how he is vowing to overturn what he calls the “unjust” laws.
These laws include the Defense of Marriage Act that clearly discriminates against the LGBTQ community. While on one hand the gay rights groups are glad he is saying he is going to make a difference but they are still a little wary of whether he will be able to pull it off and how dedicated he truly is to making sure of gay equality.
The fact that President Obama compared the gay rights movement to the civil rights movement for African Americans is a good sign. This gives more moral weight to the cause as well as putting more responsibility on the President to actually make changes.
Unfortunately he has many other things on his plate right now as well like the education system and health care that are bound to get more attention. It’s just a waiting game now to see what he will actually do over the next few years.
