You’ve probably seen pearls before even if you don’t own Pearls of your own. Mothers, grandmothers and such always have at least one set of earrings and a strand. These though, there are some pretty seriously modern styles of pearl jewelry out there, not just the simple ones you are used to seeing on the older generations.

Todays pearls come in 8 general shapes:

  • Round
  • Semi-round
  • The reason some pearls are so expensive is because those that are truly perfectly round pearls are harder than you think to find. That’s why they are the most valuable. Often what you will see in necklaces and bracelets are semi-rounds.

  • Button
  • Drop
  • Pear
  • Oval
  • Baroque
  • Circled
  • Many times you won’t even notice they are not perfect spheres. are also used in necklaces or in pieces where the shape of the pearl can be disguised to look like it is a perfectly round pearl. Button pearls are like a slightly flattened round pearl and can also make a necklace, but are more often used in single pendants or earrings where the back half of the pearl is covered, making it look like a larger, rounder pearl.

The fact of the matter is that pearl jewelry will be popular until the end of time. They are a classic gift that will make any woman glow inside, no matter how old or how young she is.

    1. I didn’t realize there are so many different types of pearls. That’s really cool. I guess a perfectly spherical pearl would be really hard to find, since pearls are made by a mollusk putting some sort of material over a hard object in layers. I wonder if most people know that?
