Gay & Lesbian Commitment Rings
Finally we are seeing some pastors who are not anti-gay and against basic rights like marrying the person you love and want to spend the rest of your life with.
I am more than happy to tell you that there are more than 100 pastors in Washington D.C. who have come together and spoken out in support of same-sex marriage. These pastors are braving the storm and not only standing up for gays and lesbians right to marry but they are also speaking out against the pastors who are opposed to same sex marriage.
Last month D.C. decided to recognize any marriages that took place out of state, so the gays and lesbians who married somewhere else could feel secure knowing that their rights were protected even though they did not live in the state in which they were married. This is a big deal and a large number of pastors, most of them African American, were staunchly opposed to this. They protested and made quite the stink.
This apparently is what propelled these other pastors to do the same, only they are supporting gays and lesbians instead of oppressing them.
“God is love and love is for everyone,” said Rev. Dennis and Christine Wiley of the Covenant Baptist Church in D.C. Another religious leader, Bishop Harry Jackson of the Hope Christian Church in Maryland, said “I’d rather be biblically courageous than politically correct.” Then there is Rev. Wiley, who is black and he is strongly in support of the gay community and against those who seek to keep the gays from having the rights they deserve. He said that “Because those of us who have been oppressed ought to be the last ones to oppress,” Here here I say.
These strong and courageous leaders have even gone so far as to draft a declaration of support for marriage equality in D.C. and they currently have 137 signatures of pastors and other religious leaders who support same sex marriage.
Now we just need other states to do the same, then maybe gays and lesbians can marry and have the same rights as those in a traditional marriage.

It is great to see others standing up for what is right. Especially since the ones doing it this time are on equal footing with those pastors who are so anti gay.
